Maria Moya is one of Costa Rica’s most respected tennis coaches, known for blending technical excellence with empathy and joy. A lifelong player inspired by her father, she competed and coached internationally before founding Maria Moya Tennis Academy in Nosara, a place where tennis meets community and nature. Maria’s mission is simple: to help every player, young or adult, build confidence on the court and carry that belief into life beyond it.

Where it began

Maria picked up her first racket in Costa Rica as a child, and by twelve was ranked among the top three players in the country. Tennis quickly became more than a game, it was a discipline, a passion, and a way to see the world.

On the world stage

Maria’s career took her to the Costa Rican National Team, the 2010 Fed Cup, and later to the U.S., where she studied, competed, and began coaching. Along the way, she developed her signature mindset coaching method, working with athletes at the highest level, including Bianca Andreescu, former US Open Champion and top 4 in the world.

Coming home to Nosara

In 2020, Maria returned to Costa Rica to open the Moya Tennis Academy in Nosara, bringing together her experience as a player, coach, and mentor. The academy is now home to players at every stage of the game.
